Mother Joyce W. Chapman was appointed as the District Missionary of the Peninsula District for the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Virginia under Bishop Wilbert Daniels and State Supervisor Jacquelin G. Holmes. She serves under the leadership of Superintendent Michael B. Golden, Jr., and passionately leads and encourages the women of the district to live an exemplary life that reflects the love of God.
Missionary Chapman has been a faithful member of the historical St. Johns Church of God in Christ in Newport News, Virginia for 50 years and has served in many ministries. Her leadership roles include former President of the Women’s Business and Professional Federation on the local and district levels, as well as serving as the Vice President of the Women’s Business and Professional Federation on the jurisdictional level, under the leadership of the late Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr., pastor and jurisdictional prelate. She has served as mass choir president and senior choir directress and continues to lend her influence and support to her current pastor, Elder Samuel l. Green, III.
Missionary Chapman is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Library Science. She retired from Newport News Public Schools where she was employed as a librarian for over 30 years. She was married to the late Deacon Timothy Chapman, Sr. and is the mother of Rhonda W. Poindexter, Becky W. MCadden and Elder John Wilson, III.
Missionary Chapman loves the Lord with all of her heart and believes that the power of life and death is in the tongue. When she rises to speak, she always reminds us that Christ has given us power to “Speak to the day and tell it to be kind…”
